Although, I have seen Hadley. Sheâs been into the diner a few times and stopped by the cabin. She hasnât said anything, but the look on her face tells me she knows. But she hasnât yelled at me or gotten upset, so maybe my being with her brother doesnât upset her. At least, I hope it doesnât. My friendship with her is more important, but I really like Marshall. Even if heâs only acted like an alpha asshole so far. I know thereâs a softer side to him, so I just need to work harder at bringing that out of him. I see how he is with his family; he loves them, a lot. Heâs hardworking and driven. Has his own business outside the ranch making saddles.
Heâs a good guy, he just needs to stop being a dick long enough to show it.
The rest of the day, all I can think about is him. Iâm so distracted that I almost knock over an order of drinks on the customers and mess up a few plates of food.
âAre you alright?â Diane asks as I bring a tray full of dirty dishes to the kitchen.
âOh, umm, yes?â I say, knowing thatâs a lie.
She laughs, giving me a small smile. âTake the trash out, then you can go on your break.â
âYeah.â I let out a breath. âThanks.â
Grabbing the trash, I head out the back door. After Iâm done, I start to head back inside to the break room when I hear laughing and tires squealing.
Brows furrowed, I head around the building to the side. Thereâs a truck there doing donuts, a group of people hanging out the back. They're loud and rowdy, a few of them have bottles in their hands. Are they drunk? I hope the driver didnât drink as well.
Do I go in and tell Diane or should I just call the cops? I donât want to cause any issues and piss people off. Itâs a small town. But I donât want anyone to get hurt, either.
Thankfully, they drive closer to the diner and park. âIâm starving!â one of the guys shouts as the group of them jump out of the truck. Thatâs when I see Landon climb out of the driver's seat. And my fear was justified; he has a fucking bottle of vodka in his hand and takes a swig.
Taking a step back, I go to head inside, but Iâm not fast enough. Landon sees me and his face lights up. âHey, you!â he shouts, jogging over to me.
âHi,â I say, forcing a smile. âYou sure you all should be drinking and driving?â I ask, raising a brow.
âAh, itâs just a few drinks. Iâm not drunk.â He laughs. Looking over his shoulder, I see a few of his friends tripping over their feet and falling to the ground, breaking out into a fit of laughter. âOkay, maybe they are. But Iâm totally fine.â
âSure.â I nod my head. I think Iâll tell Diane. She probably knows them. Maybe she can talk them into leaving their keys behind and walking home, or finding another ride.
